Matie George joins the Iowa Pork Industry Center
Matie George looks forward to working with producers and others in the Iowa pork industry, and his recent experience provides him with solid background for his new role at Iowa State University’s Iowa Pork Industry Center.
As Education Specialist with Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, she will be responsible for creating educational content from a variety of programming and research efforts for producers.
“I was interested in this role because of the opportunity to generate materials that can impact the efficiency and bottom line of grower operations,” she says. “I believe this role can advance the accessibility of educational resources for the pork industry.”
Although her journey to this position began in a different agricultural industry, she will use her determination and knowledge to help growers in her new role.
George earned his BS and MS in Animal Science from Iowa State and began his career working in the poultry industry. She was Poultry Specialist and then Poultry Sales Manager at Ridley Feed Ingredients, focusing on feed formulation and on-farm support. Most recently, she worked in pet food formulation and ingredient sourcing at Versova Management Co.
“My time in private industry has given me a unique perspective on the challenges and obstacles producers face on a daily basis,” she says. “That perspective will help me shape the educational content. It’s important that the information is meaningful and easily applicable.”
George says she hopes her work at Iowa State will help provide easier and broader access to the information pork producers need and want.
“I hope the educational materials I produce will be valuable tools that producers can implement in their day-to-day operations,” she says. “And these tools will support the training of their employees and ultimately the efficiency and profitability of their operations.”
