Everything you need to know about Dubai Watch Week 2021
The fifth edition of Dubai Watch Week is underway. We tell you what to expect at this year’s show.
What is Dubai Watch Week?
Since its inception in 2015, Dubai Watch Week (DWW), under the successful leadership of Managing Director, Hind Abdul Hamied Seddiqi, has seen a steady increase in popularity and relevance. It is one of the biggest international shows for the watch industry. In the words of its CEO, the show promises to “create an educational, experiential and networking event like no other.” A one-week affair, the show offers all of its attendees (including collectors, customers, journalists and global brand managers) the opportunity to have an open dialogue with one another.
When and where does DWW take place?
Dubai Watch Week will take place November 24-28 at the Dubai International Financial Center (DIFC), Gate Avenue, Dubai. The exhibition covers 70,000 m² and expects more than 20,000 visitors this year.
What can we expect to see there?
With each edition of Dubai Watch Week, we see new and innovative ideas that are sure to excite all watch lovers.
What is the size of the DWW display this year?
This year’s event sees over 50 watch brands present. Brands like TAG Heuer, Girard-Perregaux, Chopard, Greubel Forsey, Louis Erard, MB&F and many others exhibit their latest releases at the exhibition center. Another interesting aspect this year is the presence on site of Audemars Piguet and Rolex. The latter being a must-have brand for the region, it is said that apart from its current collection, Rolex will also present a range of vintage watches.
What can we expect at the Horology Forum?
The Watchmaking Forum is one of the most popular spaces at Dubai Watch Week. Round tables between industry experts, modern artisans, journalists, brand representatives and seasoned collectors take place here. Previous editions of the event have hosted speakers such as Jean-Claude Biver, Fabrizio Buonamassa (Director of the Design Center, Bvlgari Watches), Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi (CCO, Seddiqi Holding) and Aldis Hodge (watch enthusiast and Hollywood actor) . This year, DWW will have speakers including Felix Baumgartner (Masterwatchmker and co-founder, Urwerk), Nicholas Foulkes (author, historian and journalist) and Max Bernardini (dealer and collector of vintage watches). Conversation and discussions will be fluid, to enlighten the audience and participants with different points of view.
What can we expect during the Masterclass?
Besides the Horology Forum round tables, the Masterclass is another big attraction for all participants. It allows participants to participate in workshops led by experts and craftsmen. These experts teach participants various skills related to watchmaking such as assembling their first mechanical watch, learning the traditional art of enamelling, engraving a movement or painting a miniature dial. Organized in small groups, these courses at DWW help achieve the goal of educating and ensuring experience time for guests. This year’s schedule includes a range of exclusive workshops like learning how to use Murano glass in watchmaking, an introduction to the techniques used by Fiona Krüger in her latest collaboration with Japanese luxury brand TASAKI, a advanced course with master watchmaker Florian Preziuso and many others.
What does the Creative Hub offer?
The Creative Hub provides a way to have conversations that encourage creativity and innovation. It is organized into numerous sessions that cover a variety of topics, such as new product launches and community-related discussions which are informative. This year’s Creative Hub is expected to be the platform to launch a new brand called Aramedes, new releases from brands like Oris and Urwerk, and a series of exciting sessions with industry mainstays.
What’s the latest news at DWW?
Chaperoned by Mohammed Abdulmagied Seddiqi, CCO, Seddiqi Holding, The Collectors Lounge is the newest addition to the Dubai Watch Week activity series.
